A Chance to make some memories in Bohinj

Bohinj is a popular settlement and a fascinating tourist attraction in the North-Western Region of Slovenia. All the Adriatic cruises, carrying tourists, that enter the Mediterranean Sea, usually have this settlement on their bucket list.
We shall discuss and explore what makes this region such a special travel spot by telling you about various sites and activities popularly affiliated with the region.

An insight to Bohinj

To give the tourists a better idea of this district, we shall first discuss what the place is like. That includes its geography, climate, and culture.

Geography of Bohinj

This beautiful valley or basin is situated in the Julian Alps and is about 20 km long and 5 km wide. The medium-sized river called Sava Bohinjka passes through it.

Here are some famous locations that surround Bohinj, that you could visit along with it:

  • The Southern border is the Lower Bohinj Mountain Range
  • TIts 4 geographical units are Lower Valley, Upper Valley, Lake Basin, and Nomenj Basin
  • TKomarča head wall is attached on one end, and Soteska Canyon on the other.

About 5300 people live in this municipality, which are divided into 24 villages. The biggest of these settlements is “Bohinjska Bistrica”. Although they all speak the same language, they have a lot of different dialects depending upon the settlement. Upper Carniolan dialect is the most famous one of those.

What is the weather scenario in Bohinj

This place has a harsh Alpine Climate. It is cold most of the year, with snow at its thickest around February. Precipitation increases significantly during the Autumn season and it may even get sunny during the end of winters (how ironic).

Tourist Attractions to visit in Bohinj

Given its geographical landscape, there are a lot of beautiful places in Bohinj for tourists to visit. If you want to explore this place at its fullest, you may have to book a private charter, since a day or 2 in this place is simply not enough to explore it. Here are some of those tourist attractions:

Lake Bohinj

This is the main tourist attraction in Bohinj. Once you get on the boat and traverse through the lake, you just cannot help but think you are not on earth anymore. The view from the lake is simply phenomenal: you can see lush green mountains at a distance, and the colorful boats floating on the water just add on to the beauty. All this makes it a pretty good picnic spot too.

Mount Triglav

This mountain has a special place in the heart of every Slovenian, especially those living in Bohinj. It is the highest peak in the country and a source of pride for people living there. Those of you who are going luxury cruising there must visit this place because if you miss out on it, it is almost like you are missing out at Bohinj entirely.

Savika Waterfall

This is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the region. This waterfall makes the shape of an “A”. Though one of the sides is about 78 meters tall, and the other just about 25, so it would make for a very weird “A”. Nevertheless, even a 25 meters tall waterfall is more than enough to amaze people, yet here are two.

Mostnica Gorge

While we are discussing lakes, mountains, and waterfalls, we should not forget about another amazing geographical spot in Bohinj, the Canyons. This gorge is right next to the lake of Bohinj and is about 2 km long. Exploring it with a boat would be a really fun activity to partake in.

The Valley of Voje

The valley is a beautiful, isolated, and peaceful village in Bohinj, near the Mostnica Waterfall. In fact, you can hear the sound of the water falling from a distance.
This valley has a small road, and there are beautiful green pastures as far as the eye can go. When all is said and done, you can see huge mountains at the back. This would be a sight never to forget. You can also take some pretty dope pictures here.

Best Restaurants to ear from in Bohinj

While you are busy luxury cruising with us on your sailing holidays, you should not forget to eat. There are a variety of restaurants with a plethora of dishes from the Mediterranean to Western. Even a lifetime there would not be enough to eat everything that’s available.

Some of the finest restaurants including:

  • Foksner: This restaurant is located in Bohinjsko Jezero. The burgers of this place are known for their quality and freshness all around the region.
  • Pizzeria Pr'Košnik: This place is about a mile and a half from the Lake of Bohinj. It gives the most delicious and uniquely prepared pizzas, the kind you will never see anywhere else.
  • Gostilna Bohinj: This is one of the most famous places near Lake Bohinj. It’s an outdoor sitting arrangement that allows you to observe their street life.
  • Café Bar Paviljon: This place provides the best coffee in the town. The seating is outdoors and gives you a beautiful view of the mountains, that you can gaze upon as you sip on your drink.
